Is music theory necessary for melodeon players?
Some musicians say that you should play by feel and that theory is not important. Others approach music from theory. One way is not better than the other. There are famous musicians who cannot read sheet music, such as Bob Dylan, Paul McCarthy and Prince. However, some knowledge of music theory can make the life of an melodeon player easier, because you speak the same language as other musicians.
Is music theory necessary? No, but knowledge of time signatures, chords, keys etc. will help you understand a melody better.
